UC Davis Hiring 12 new Faculty Within Energy, January 2007

UC Davis is poised to enhance its leadership position in energy research and education through the breadth of its programs, the highly interdisciplinary nature of its academic enterprises, its geographical location and recent growth in faculty numbers.

There are three foci of research excellence that emerge as the obvious foundation for the proposed energy initiative, Energy for the Future at UC Davis. These are transportation systems energy, renewable energy and energy at the molecular frontier.

Transportation Systems Energy

UC Davis has gained an international reputation for its research on energy and technology in transportation. Additional faculty are sought that would build on this area of expertise. Areas of emphasis include science and engineering of advanced energy storage and conversion technologies, advanced environmental vehicle technology systems, energy systems analysis, and energy use impact on the environment.

Renewable Energy

Researchers at UC Davis have established outstanding programs in renewable energies. To build on this area of excellence, recruitment of additional faculty in the areas renewable energy and/or closely related fields areas should receive the highest priority.

Energy at the Molecular Frontier

Recruitment of outstanding faculty investigating fundamental energy issues at the molecular and nanoscale levels is another cornerstone of the UC Davis Energy initiative. Targeted areas include energy-focused catalysis, photovoltaics and solar energy, ultrafast imaging and spectroscopy, energy-focused biological and biomimetic reactions, and the development of new and improved materials for energy production and storage.
